As wind power incentives have increased and net metering arrangements are more common, “small wind” systems typically installed at homes, businesses and farms have increased in size and generating capacity. Many of these systems rely on three-phase AC induction generators. If the user has only single-phase utility power available, the three-phase generator cannot be connected to the grid for net metering.
Relying on our expertise in phase converters, Phase Technologies, LLC has developed a three-to-single-phase converter that allows the connection of three-phase AC induction wind generators to a single-phase power grid. Converters are available up to 80 KVA in capacity.
Phase Perfect grid-tie wind converters provide an affordable, efficient means of
converting the output of three-phase wind generators to single-phase
power. Utilizing a unique patented circuit design, only about half the
generated power must be processed through the double IGBT conversion system,
which improves the efficiency of the converter to 97% typical. This also reduces
component cost to help keep the converter affordable.

Phase Perfect grid-tie wind converters are bi-directional, allowing the utility
to power the generator and keep it on line during brief periods of low wind
speed. And with electronic power factor correction the utility grid connection
always operates at unity power factor regardless of the power factor of the
generator.
